Comedy haul

Remember how all these movies came out years ago, and I never got around to them? I'm watching them now:

She's Out of My League (2010)

Let's get one thing out of the way, Jay Baruchel is kind of adorable. Yes, he's get a regressive chin and is skinny as hell, but my tastes skew heavily in the skinny direction. Top it off with some neuroses, and I can't say I wouldn't tap that. Anyway, as crude as it is and dumb as the premise is (a 5 can't get with a 10!), this movie is surprisingly funny, heart-warming, and quotable. Recommended.

Superbad (2007)

Bill Hader may be the love of my life.
I tried to watch this movie when it came out and was so annoyed by Jonah Hill within the first 5 minutes, I turned it off. Maybe my Jonah Hill tolerance has grown because I finally made it through the whole movie. Overall, fairly underwhelming. I hate to be one of those movies that's like, "It's a guy movie," but it is, and I don't get why this was hailed as so funny. But let's break it down.

Things I liked: these people look like high school students, especially the girls with limited make-up; Michael Cera's sweet storyline; McLovin for the first half of the film; Bill Hader; Seth Rogen in supporting role, Emma Stone pretty much always.

Things I could do without: Jonah Hill pretty much always; the period blood because that doesn't even make sense--why wasn't there blood all down this girl's leg if her flow was that heavy? Yes, I'm analyzing the feasibility of this; the length--FIND AN EDITOR ALREADY, APATOW PRODUCED MOVIES; seriously, the Jonah Hill plot was obnoxious, although occasionally amusing because, duh, Emma stone.

tl;dr--This is the American Beauty of 21st Century comedies. I only hate it vehemently in retrospect.

My Best Friend's Girl (2008)
The poor fit of Kate Hudson's dress is the perfect representation of this awful movie.
Did you know this movie existed? I didn't until I was hanging out at a friends and was cajoled into watching it. Was it worth it? Nope. Dane Cook (ugh) helps girls get back with their boyfriends by being a terrible rebound date. His best friend Jason Biggs (eeeh) wants to get back with his girlfriend that wasn't really that into him in the first place, Kate Hudson (NOPE). I guess this was supposed to be funny, but the fact that I saw this in super HD made it look all the more cheap and terribly produced. Did someone shave off their eyebrows? Yep. Was that one Car's song used because of the title? Yep. Did Alec Baldwin show up as a terrible father to Dane Cook? You betcha! Now I'm going to bleach my brain so I never have to think about this again.

Wedding Crashers (2005)

These guys know how to deliver a good wedding toast.
Meh. Not terrible, but the premise kind of wore me out. Also, I miss skinnier Vince Vaughn and funny Rachel McAdams.

Super Troopers (2001)

So many magnificent mustaches.
This is also a stupid comedy that kept my attention. The state troopers might lose their jobs to the local police due if they don't get their act together. Blah blah blah they break up a drug ring. Also, they pull amusing pranks on each other. Mostly, there was enough unexpected humor in a fairly cliched plot to amuse me, and it made me miss the days of a tightly-scripted comedy. Watching people improv in every scene is exhausting. Anyway, I recommend you watch this right meow.

  1. She's Out Of My League is one of my guilty it's on TV so I have to watch it movies because of how surprisingly endearing most of the characters are. TJ Miller might be my favorite, or attractive Devon Sawa.
